A KLM flight carrying hundreds of passengers was forced to make a precautionary landing at Shannon airport this morning.

A KLM flight carrying hundreds of passengers was forced to make a precautionary landing at Shannon airport this morning.

The plane was headed to Amsterdam from South America, when the alert was declared.

Flight KL765 landed safely in Shannon at 9.37am with 298 people on board.

In a statement from the airline this evening they say, "Passengers and crew were not in danger."

Passengers later travelled onto Amsterdam Schiphol airport onboard another KLM plane.

Aircraft technicians are investigating the incident.
