Three people have been taken to hospital after a garda car collided with another vehicle in Co. Laois.

Three people have been taken to hospital after a garda car collided with another vehicle in Co. Laois.

The Garda Ombudsman Commission is now investigating the incident which occurred on the Mountrath Road, near Portlaoise at around 3pm.

It is believed the Garda car was in pursuit of the other vehicle at the time of the crash.

Two Gardaí and one of the occupants of the other car were taken to hospital, but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Three of the men in the car were arrested at the scene and are being questioned at Portlaoise Garda Station.
