Met Eireann forecasts snow later this week

A wintry blast is to bring snow showers, hail and ice later this week.

A cold front is expected to sweep across the country on Wednesday.

Met Eireann has forecast several centimetres of snow in places, with the west and north worst affected.

Temperatures will drop to as low as minus four on Wednesday evening, bringing snow to some areas expecially over Donegal and the wintry showers will become confined more to exposed Northern and Western parts on Thursday night.

The forecaster said that Wednesday night and the rest of the week will be bitterly cold because of a strong and blustery wind.

Thursday night will see temperatures at freezing or several degrees below with frost and ice, while Friday's day-time temperatures will only reach four to six degrees at best.
