Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Dublin city on Saturday night.

A man remains in a serious condition in hospital following the alleged attack on Dame Lane at around 11.30pm.

The man in his late 30s was found with serious head injuries close to the entrance of a pub. It is understood he was struck once and fell to the ground.

He was taken to St James' Hospital, and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital. His condition has stabilised and he is expected to recover.

Gardaí are asking anyone who was in the area at the time to contact them.
