418 applications to pyrite scheme

The Department of the Environment said it has received 418 applications for its scheme to fund remediation work for homes damaged by pyrite.

It said it has audited over half of those applications, and found that the damage is satisfactory in all cases so far.

The Pyrite Remediation Board said it is aware of a number of actions by builders and developers against those who may be liable for cracks and subsistence caused by the substance.

It also said that as much as possible should be contributed to the scheme by those who may be liable for pyrite damage, while not unduly delaying homeowners who need to have repair works done.
