'Do you need directions past the Red Cow'? Minister asks Paul Murphy on water

The Environment Minister has accused anti-water charges protestors of hypocrisy.

Alan Kelly said those who claim water is a human right had no issue with people having to pay for group water schemes.

He was questioned in the Dáil today on his plans for customers who refuse to pay their charges.

Minister Kelly did not divulge his plans for that eventuality, but instead attacked Socialist TD Paul Murphy for alleged hypocrisy.

"Have you gone to Callow in Mayo, where there was 1,200, or indeed over to the Erne Valley in Cavan, or Claremorris in Kerrry where there's 1,250 homes on group schemes - and they've been paying for water.

"Why aren't you protesting outside their homes and outside their schemes, for the fact that they've been paying for water for many years.

"Do you need me to give you directions past the red cow [roundabout]?"
