TDs considering bailout for Gardaí

TDs are being asked to approve a €75m bailout for the Gardaí.

The extra money will go mostly towards pay and communication equipment.

Some of the funds will also be spent on clothing, administration and the maintenance of Garda aircraft.

The Oireachtas Justice Committee is meeting this afternoon to consider the request.

The extra funding amounts to a 6% increase in the original Garda budget announced last year.
