This morning, she admitted that the demonstrators at Gaelcholaiste Reachrann in Donaghmede did not come into direct contact with her, or with her car.

However, speaking to Clare FM, the Minister hit out at those who have protested outside schools.

"I was very conscious that I was at a school," she said.

"I would have some criticisms of those protesters in that most of the protests that have happened so far seem to be at educational events of one kind or another.

"I don't think young people should be dragged into this in any way.

"So I wasn't going to do anything that would cause difficulty for the young people in the school."
