Symphisiotomy group seeks meeting with new Health Minister

The group representing women who underwent symphisiotomies during childbirth are seeking a meeting with the Minister for Health, Leo Varadkar.

Survivors of Symphisiotomy has drawn up a set of proposals to present to Government, aimed at resolving their issues.

It comes after the UN expressed concern at Ireland's failure to identify, prosecute and punish those who carried out the practice without consent.

Marie O'Connor of Survivors of Symphisiotomy explains why she's seeking an urgent meeting with Minister Varadkar.

"We'd like to have a meeting with the minister as early as possible, because we have to discuss the eight point plan that we have now put before him for truth and restitution," she said.

"We believe this plan offers potentially an acceptable resolution for our members."
