Post mortem to establish cause of woman's death in Dublin after month-long coma

It is hoped a post mortem will establish whether or not a woman found in her Dublin flat last month died as a result of an assault.

The 54-year-old grandmother spent almost a month in a coma before she passed away yesterday.

After complaining of feeling unwell on July 25, the woman was taken from her flat in the north inner city to Beaumont hospital.

She passed away yesterday afternoon after spending almost a month in a coma.

Early signs suggested she may have been the victim of some sort of an attack and her death is being treated as suspicious.

All the circumstances surrounding events leading up to her being taken to hospital will be examined.

The results of a post mortem should establish exactly how she died and whether her injuries were consistent with an assault.

That will then determine what direction the investigation takes.

No arrests have yet been made but it is understood gardaí have questioned a number of people since the woman was first taken to hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to contact their local garda station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
