Toddler airlifted to hospital after severing finger in accident
A young child has been airlifted to hospital after reportedly severing part of a finger in an accident,
The toddler, believed to be about 12 months old, is understood to have suffered the injury at their home near Ennis, Co Clare this afternoon.
Paramedics responded to an emergency call at around 4.00pm and treated the child at the scene.
The Emergency Aeromedical Service (EAS) was requested to provide an air ambulance to airlift the child to hospital however the helicopter was on another mission at the time.
The Shannon based search and rescue helicopter, Rescue 115, was asked to operate in an air ambulance role instead.
The helicopter had been on a training mission and had to return to Shannon to refuel. In the meantime, the ambulance transported the child to the airport to meet the helicopter.
The youngster was flown to University Hospital Galway for treatment.
