Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Archbishop of Cashel and Emly Dermot Clifford.

Archbishop Clifford resigned on the grounds of age, as is a requirement of Canon Law.

Cork-native Bishop Kieran O'Reilly has been appointed as his successor.

In a statement this morning, Archbishop Clifford said of Bishop O'Reilly:"That he is a scholar I learned from others, that he is a gentleman I have found out for myself".
