Engineer admits to running Limerick brothels

A senior engineer has admitted to keeping and managing brothels in three Limerick City locations.

56-year-old Thomas Lyons of The Warren, Malahide in Co Dublin, yesterday pleaded guilty to operating brothels and living off the earnings of prostitutes between August 2010 and June 2011.

Lyons, who had previously offered advice to the Government on a major infrastructure project, had been "the subject of a two-and-a-half-year garda surveillance investigation" after residents complained about men coming and going from the flats.

He has been remanded on continuing bail.
