GPs say there has been a surge in waiting times for patients at their clinics.

The National Association of General Practitioners says only 32% were able to provide an urgent appointment in less than three hours down from 73% five years ago.

The body has released the figures on the same day the Minister for Health says long delays for inpatient or daycase procedures are on the decline.

Simon Harris says the reduction is due to new policies implemented by the National Treatment Purchase Fund.
