The aid agencies say the coalition has failed to show leadership on the issue.

It is also calling for a fast-track asylum process and for a significant increase in the numbers of people the country takes in.

The EU's foreign ministers have been meeting in Brussels to discuss a Europe-wide plan for resettling asylum seekers from Africa and the Middle East.

Edel McGinley of the Migrant Rights Centre Ireland outlines their demands: "What we are asking the government to do is to step up and show leadership in relation to this issue that they haven’t shown a great leadership so far.

"We are asking for an immediate recall of the Dáil.

"We want to see a significant increase to the numbers of people who are seeking protection in Ireland and that the process for resettlement and relocation is accelerated."

Hundreds of refugees frustrated at being stuck at two train stations in Hungary have set off for Austria on foot.
