A female pedestrian aged in her 50s has died in a road accident in Co Mayo this evening.

A female pedestrian aged in her 50s has died in a road accident in Co Mayo this evening.

Gardaí are investigating the crash which occurred at around 7.30pm on the N5 at Bohola, Co Mayo.

The woman was fatally injured when she was struck by a car which was travelling in the direction of Swinford. The male driver of the car was not injured.

The road is closed and is not expected to re-open until tomorrow morning.

Diversions are in place and heavy-goods vehicles are asked to avoid the area.
