Wicklow woman to run 'lap of the map' in aid of RNLI

On New Year's Day, 65 year-old-Mary Hickey will start to run the entire coast of Ireland.

Mary, from Arklow, Co Wicklow, has already completed all 38 Dublin Marathons, but her new challenge is to raise funds and awareness for the RNLI.

She is currently putting the final touches to her preparations for the trip which will see her spend months on the road, travelling nearly 5,000 kilometres.

"I came up with this idea, why I don't know, that I would do a 'lap of the map' - of the whole country, the whole coast of Ireland, in aid of the RNLI," she said.

"I kind of stuck with it, kept it to myself for the first couple of months, and then I said it out loud, and that was it, It was put into action.

"So we're only days away from me starting off now at this stage."
