An Aer Lingus flight was diverted this evening after a baby on board became unwell.

The alarm was raised about 20 minutes into EI845's flight from Amsterdam to Cork.

Cabin crew called for a doctor or a nurse but when none came forward, they administered oxygen to the baby, and a medical emergency was declared.

The aircraft diverted to Birmingham and landed without incident at 8.47pm where it was met by paramedics, ambulance and fire brigade crews at the parking gate.

The baby and its mother were taken off the aircraft and immediately rushed to hospital.

There is no news on the baby's current condition.

The aircraft then prepared for departure and took off a short time later, landing in Cork at 10.55pm, about 90-minutes behind schedule.
