The Union of Students in Ireland has said it hopes to get 10,000 students to register to vote in the next 24 hours.
The campaign titled "Education Is" is happening at 24 campuses across the country.
The USI is hoping the campaign will encourage political parties to pursue policies offering more supports for third level students.
USI President Kevin Donoghue said the marriage equality referendum had sparked a surge students registering to vote.
"In the run-up to the General Election next year, young people and students in particular have got quite excited about the prospect of participating in the electoral process, on the back of the marriage equality referendum," he said.
"They're very engaged and can't wait to get involved."
