Gardai are investigating after a man’s body was discovered in a derelict premises in Nenagh this morning after a fire broke out in disused pub.

Gardai are investigating after a man’s body was discovered in a derelict premises in Nenagh this morning after a fire broke out in disused pub.

The fire was reported by a passer by around 1am.

The derelict premises is located on Keyon Street in the town.

Two units of Nenagh Fire Service, along with one unit from Cloughjordan, attended the scene.

Firefighters discovered the deceased man, aged in his 40s, inside the premises while fighting the blaze.

It’s understood a second person was in the premises at the time of the blaze but managed to escape.

“A body was found at the premises. It is a disused pub on Kenyon Street. The (999) call was made by s passer-by,” said a source.

Firefighters left the scene at 11.55am, nearly 12 hours after they first arrived to tackle the blaze.

The building has been sealed off by Gardai and a technical examination is to take place to establish the cause of the blaze.

A Garda spokesman said: “A fire was reported at 1:05am today at Kenyon Street Nenagh. Two males were thought staying at the premises.”

“One male was removed to Limerick hospital with minor injuries. The other male (aged in his 40’s) is deceased and was removed to Limerick Hospital for a post mortem today.”

“The scene is preserved for a technical examination.”
