Gardaí in Co Louth are investigating the theft of valuable equipment from a hotel car park in Dundalk last night.

Gardaí investigate theft of 'dangerous' X-ray machine

Gardaí in Co Louth are investigating the theft of valuable equipment from a hotel car park in Dundalk last night.

A handheld X-Ray Fluorescent Metal Analyzer was taken from a van parked in the car park of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Green Park, Dundalk sometime between 10pm last night and 9am this morning.

"Gardai in Dundalk would like to advise the public that this device emits radiation,is dangerous and should only be used by trained personnel," a garda statement said.

The device, which was in a case when taken, is used in the construction industry to measure the density of metal in objects.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have any information to contact the Gardaí at Dundalk on 042-9388400 the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

Any information should be given to Gardai in Dundalk.
