The cold weather is set to continue for the coming week, according to Met Éireann.

Temperatures fell to -3C in some parts of the country overnight, with snow falling in some places in the west.

Wintry showers are due to continue over the north and west of the country today, with lows later on of -5C.

“The weather is set to stay cold, not only for the weekend, but most of next week as well, with low daytime temperatures below freezing at night,” said Met Éireann forecaster John Eagleton.
