Sniffer dog Stella has helped Revenue Customs officers find well over €800,000 worth of illegal drugs in Portlaoise today.

Revenue's Customs Service said - that following routine profiling - officers seized 42kgs of herbal cannabis, with a street value of €840,000, at the Portlaoise Mail Centre.

The drugs were found after the Revenue's sniffer dog, Stella, gave a positive reaction on a parcel described on its documentation as 'food and spices'. The parcel was consigned from West Africa to an address in North Dublin.

An investigation is underway into the incident.
