The Garda Ombudsman has been called in to investigate the death of a man who had been in Garda custody.

The Garda Ombudsman has been called in to investigate the death of a man who had been in Garda custody.

The man in his mid-twenties was pronounced dead in hospital this morning, after he was transferred by ambulance from Ballymun Garda Station.

He had been arrested and brought to Ballymun Garda Station in the early hours of this morning.

A doctor was called as the man appeared unwell.

The man was subsequently released from custody, but while still at the garda station, became more unwell.

Medical assistance was provided and he was transferred by ambulance to the Mater Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at around 4.30am.
