Colleagues of a young Donegal woman have dubbed her their 'lucky 13' after a big Lotto win this week.

Maria Doherty, 21, started a new call centre job on Monday, and joined the office lottery syndicate on Wednesday.

That night, their numbers came up, along with a jackpot of €4,871,046.

Maria was the 13th person to join the group, and each person's taking home €374, 695.

She says she cannot believe her luck.

“I wasn’t aware that they did the syndicate you see because Monday was my first day,” she said.

“So on Wednesday they were giving their €2 and the girl who was with me, she was like: ‘Oh, every Wednesday we do a syndicate for the Lotto, so hand in your €2’

“So I was like: ‘Oh definitely, I think I’ll join in’...Never in a million years did I think then the next morning I’d wake up to know that we actually won the Lotto!”

Maria says even though each member would have received more money if it wasn't split 13 ways,

“They actually call me ‘The Lucky Number 13’ now,” she said. “I couldn’t imagine even what to spend it on, or what to do with it. It’s an amazing amount of money.”
