River rescue tonight on the Shannon

An emergency operation is underway on the River Shannon tonight after a man reportedly entered the water near Clonlara, Co Clare.

An emergency operation is underway on the River Shannon tonight after a man reportedly entered the water near Clonlara, Co Clare.

Gardai, fire service personnel and paramedics are at the scene near Clonlara Bridge.

The Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter is combing a stretch of water from Clonlara through to Blackwater and onto the electrical power station at Ardnacrusha.

Gardai at Henry Street in Limerick City are investigating the incident.
