Nora Hyland inquest returns verdict of medical misadventure

A verdict of medical misadventure has been returned at the inquest of a woman who died at the National Maternity Hospital within hours of undergoing an emergency C-Section in February 2012.

31 year old Nora Hyland of Charlotte Quay in Dublin had to wait over a half an hour for a blood transfusion after she suffered severe bleeding.

It emerged during the inquest that no emergency supplies of blood were kept in operating theatres at the hospital at a time.

In a statement this evening, the National Maternity hospital extended its sympathy to the Hyland family.

It said the hospital has looked to learn everything possible from what it called - this tragic outcome.
