30 more people will lose their lives on Irish roads before the end of the year.

That is the stark warning from the Road Safety Authority which has voiced concerns that eight people have been killed in the past four days alone.

It brings the death toll on Irish roads to 157, an increase of 31 on the same period last year.

Brian Farrell is Communications Manager with the RSA: "Government agencies have a role to play in redoubling our efforts to try and reduce and turn around those figures.

"But critically it’s up to each and every one of us as individual road users to do whatever we can and we owe that out of respect for all the people who’ve been killed and those who’ve been seriously injured on our roads to do just that."
