Former sports coach fled to Spain after sex abuse victim came forward

A former sports coach from Dublin has been jailed for three years for sexually abusing two teenage boys and for possessing a large amount of child pornography.

Colin Goggin - with a former address at Beach Park Road in Foxrock - fled to Spain after his first victim came forward in 2007.

The 52-year-old remained there for five years until he was returned to Ireland on a European Arrest Warrant.

Judge Martin Nolan said the offences were serious and that it was Goggin's involvement with athletics which gave him access to young victims.

He imposed three years for each of Goggin’s victims and two years for possession of the child pornography.

The sentences will run concurrently.
