The Garda Commissioner's been requested to be present outside the Dáil tomorrow to ensure access to Leinster House for TDs, Senators and staff.

The Dáil's Committee on Procedures and Privileges has made the request of Nóirín O'Sullivan in the wake of a protest today.

It saw the car of former Minister Alan Shatter surrounded by a number of protestors and another member was unable to leave to attend a medical appointment.

Sources say that Gardaí had committed during security reviews in recent months that access to and from Leinster House would be maintained during protests.
