The Government has approved funding for the development of new social housing units in Dublin's north inner city.

Seventy-two homes will be built on a vacant site on Dominick Street at a cost of €22m.

Fifty households who are already living in the Dominick Street flats will be rehoused in the new units, while a further 22 will be taken off the housing list.

Local Minister for Public Expenditure Paschal Donohoe said today was the culmination of a decade-long project led by the community.
