Gardaí said emergency services were attending the scene and motorists should pursue alternate routes.
The M50 northbound is closed after Junction 6 Blanchardstown in Dublin after a truck went on fire.
Gardaí are advising motorists travelling North on the M50 that traffic is being diverted off at Junction 6, down the N3 for a short stretch and back to rejoin the M50 at the onramp to the M50 North at Junction 6 .
It is expected the stretch of road will remain closed for a number of hours.
Gardai say the five-axle truck ban in Dublin city centre has been lifted as a result.
Wouldn't advise anyone to head north bound on the #M50
