Emergency services are attending a serious fire in Mayo this evening.

It's understood the blaze at a machinery plant in Ballinrobe took hold at about 5.30pm.

At this stage it is not known if anyone has been injured.

Gardaí and fire services are at the scene - the main Bllainrobe to Castlebar road has been closed off to assist in the effort to bring the fire under control.

Update at 9pm

Emergency services are continuing to battle a blaze in Mayo which has been ongoing for over three hours.

The fire at a machinery plant in Ballinrobe began at about 5.30pm this evening.

No one has suffered any injuries in the blaze and the nearby main Ballinrobe to Castlebar road has been closed off as a safety precaution.

The blaze is being described as serious - efforts are continuing to bring it under control.

Update at 10.30pm

A fire in Mayo that had been ranging for four hours has been brought under control.

An examination of the scene is expected to be carried out tomorrow.
