Psychiatric nurses at University College Hospital Galway will begin their work to rule today.

Staff have voiced concerns over their personal safety at the facilty - with the Psychiatric Nurses Association reporting more than 30 assaults of its members since the start of the year.

Last month 10 nurses refused to turn up to work on one occasion, citing security concerns.

The PNA has warned lightning strikes will occur in UCHG if a resolution is not found and the organisation is calling on the Minister for Mental Health Kathleen Lynch to intervene.
