The Government is being urged not to do a 'rush job' in regenerating Dublin's Moore Street, just to have it ready for the Easter Rising centenary celebrations
A meeting to discuss its preservation is being hosted by the Lord Mayor of Dublin Christy Burke at the Mansion House this morning.
It will include input from academics and specialists, as well as 1916 relatives.
Founder of the Save '16 Moore Street committee Patrick Cooney said there is no point redeveloping the site in the wrong way.
"It is absolutely imperative that the Moore St battlefield site and all of the buildings are preserved, restored and rejuvenated in the appropriate way," Mr Cooney said.
"To rush it through and try and cram it in just before the centenary and do the wrong job - i.e. the demolition, which is what the developer planned - that is not acceptable at all.
"You have to get it right."
