Fianna Fáil has distanced itself from abortion issue

Fianna Fáil is once again distancing itself from the abortion issue.

It is repeating that repealing the 8th amendment is not a priority for the party and it will not be pursuing the issue in any negotiations for a programme for government.

Robert Troy, the party's spokesperson on childcare has said Fianna Fáil will give its Oireachtas members the freedom to vote according to their conscience: “It’s not a priority for the party to repeal the 8th amendment.

“It is not something that we are going to be pursuing in terms of programme for Government, but if it is something that does come up, it is something that the party has given freedom to vote according to your conscience.”
