Waterford Crystal pensions dispute referred to LRC

The Waterford Crystal pensions dispute is being referred to the LRC.

The trade union UNITE has accepted an invitation to go to the Labour Relations Commission.

Last year, the European Court of Justice ruled that the Irish state was in breach of its obligations under the terms of the EU Insolvency Directive to ensure that employees receive sufficient accrued occupational pension entitlements.

The case is currently before the High court and is listed for hearing next January.

In the meantime, UNITE says it will be engaging "fully and constructively" with the LRC process.
