The Gardaí's "Operation Slow Down" has caught 322 motorists breaking speed limits.

Those caught included one driver caught doing more than 70 kilometres per hour OVER the speed limit.

The 24 hour enforcement drive - which ended at 7am this morning - checked the speed of over 176 thousand vehicles on roads all over the country.

The operation aims to reduce the number of speed related collisions on our roads.

Gardaí have highlighted a number of serious incidents detected.

It includes a driver going at 121 kilometres per hour in a 50 kilometre zone at Ballynacarrow, Co Sligo - that's 71 over the limit.

Another motorist was clocked at 140 kilometres per hour in a 100 kilometre zone on the N4 at Ballinalack in Co Westmeath

And at Cashel in Co Donegal a driver was nearly 50 kilometres per hour over the 80 kilometre limit.
