Gardaí investigating a serious assault in Carrick On Shannon have arrested two people.

The man and woman being detained are in their 20s and are currently detained at Garda stations in the Co Leitrim area.

They are being questioned in relation to an assault on a man on the Main Street in Carrick on Shannon on July 17, which left him in a critical condition.

The victim was taken to Sligo University Hospital, where his condition is described as critical.

Gardaí have interviewed a number of witnesses and viewed CCTV covering the area.
