A prisoner was injured during a failed attempt to escape today, the Limerick Leader reported today.

A prisoner was injured during a failed attempt to escape today, the Limerick Leader reported today.

According to the newspaper, the man was knocked down on Mulgrave Street outside Limerick Prison.

“He escaped from custody, went out through the pedestrian gate and made contact with a slow moving vehicle,” a garda spokesperson told the Limerick Leader.

“He lost his footing and tried to get up but was then apprehended by the gardaí.”

The man was taken to hospital as a precaution.
