Dublin hosts public discussion on implications of Brexit for Ireland

A public discussion on the implications of the UK vote to leave the European Union is taking place in Dublin this morning.

Yesterday, EU leaders met in Brussels where discussions took place on the type of trade agreement the UK would have with the union when it leaves.

One of the panellists at the debate in Dublin today, Professor John O'Brennan from Maynooth University, said that British people who think they would be treated better after they voted to leave are wrong.

"That represents a catastrophic misjudgement on the part of those who held that view," he said.

"I think we've heard very clear signals over the last few days that a great majority of member states want the UK to face up to the consequences of the decision - 'out' really does mean 'out'."
