Lynch not expecting resistance from banks to Banking Inquiry orders

The head of the Banking Inquiry Ciaran Lynch says he does not anticipate any resistance to compellability orders sent to more than a dozen senior witnesses.

Thirteen of the country's top bankers during the Celtic Tiger era have been summoned to appear before the inquiry from next month.

The names include Bank of Ireland's current CEO Richie Boucher - who admits the bank made mistakes during the crisis - as well as his predecessor Brian Goggin; and former AIB boss Eugene Sheehy.

The Banking Inquiry Chairman says he believes the witnesses will co-operate.

Mr Lynch said: "We haven't had any resistance to date, a whole series of compellability letters, with my name at the end of them, went out to the financial institutions before Christmas seeking different documentations from the banks.

"There wasn't any resistance at that stage and I'm not envisaging any resistance as we move into the next stage."
