Senator threatens to call vote on over 100 amendments of adoption Bill

A Senator has threatened to call a vote on over 100 amendments of a new Bill overhauling the law on adoption.

A Senator has threatened to call a vote on over 100 amendments of a new Bill overhauling the law on adoption.

Senator Mullen wants his colleagues to vote down every single part of the Children & Family Relationships Bill currently going through the Seanad.

The law overhauls the procedures on adoption and would give same-sex couples the right to apply to adopt a child.

Senator Mullen says the Government should not be submitting the Bill to the Seanad so close to the referendum on same-sex marriage.

"Every section of this Bill deserves to be rejected, precisely because it is so reckless around children's rights and dignity, so manipulative in its timescale, in its political conception, and in its delivery in these Houses," he said.
