Fennelly report 'close to completion'

The final report of the Fennelly Commission is understood to be close to completion and will be delivered to witnesses next week.

The report will examine the events that led to the retirement of former Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan.

According to the Irish Independent, it will be sent to a number of key witnesses, including Mr Callinan, former Justice Minister Alan Shatter, former Secretary General of the Department of Justice Brian Purcell and Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

The Fennelly Commission is set to determine whether Mr Callinan was forced from his position as a result of Cabinet concern over the garda tapes controversy.
