Gardaí urge caution after major gas leak in Drogheda

There is a major gas leak in the Beamore Road area of Drogheda.

Due to a fractured main at the railway bridge, gardaí are advising residents in the area to close all windows and external doors.

A spokesperson for Gas Networks Ireland confirmed that the gas was natural gas and is detectable by smell.

They said in a statement this evening that there had been third-party damage to a gas main and that work is underway to manage the situation.

They are working in co-operation with emergency services who are at the scene and apologised for any inconvenience caused by the disruption.

Traffic diversions are in place and investigations are underway.
