A man is in a critical condition after being struck by a car on a motorway in Carlow.

A man is in a critical condition after being struck by a car on a motorway in Carlow.

The truck driver stepped out of his vehicle in the hard shoulder of the M9 near Carlow town when he was hit at around 7.30pm this evening.

The man who is in his early forties has been airlifted to Tallaght Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

The four occupants of the car were not injured in the incident.
