Phil Hogan faces EU Commissioner vote today

MEPs in the European Parliament in Strasbourg will vote today on the new team of EU Commissioners.

The incoming president of the European Commission Jean -Claude Juncker will outline the political priorities of his College of Commissioners for the next five years.

Over the last few weeks MEPs in the European Parliament have been holding hearings of those nominated for EU Commissioner positions.

Ireland's Phil Hogan is the incoming Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural development.

But not everyone passed the test. Slovenia's former prime minister, Alenka Bratusek was rejected by the MEPs.

The hearings have now been completed and this morning the incoming President of the EU Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker will outline the priorities of his team of 27 Commissioners.

After that the MEPs will vote on the new Commission.

If as expected that vote is passed, then Mr Juncker and his team will formally begin business on November 1.
