Public encouraged to make the most of Culture Night

Thousands of people around the country are expected to attend Culture Night events this evening.

Culture Night has expanded to over 1,500 venues nationwide this year, hosting over 3,000 events.

The organisers are promising everything from comedy to talks, from rock to visual art.

Culture Night coordinator Aimée van Wylick says there is a huge selection of events

"We would really encourage people to visit our website, and download our free app and create your own Culture night trail," she said.

"Everything is per location, so you select where you are on the night, and you can create your trail.

"There's so much happening - it's really hard to pick and choose!"

Co Galway's events include a fairy dance featuring the young dancers of Youth Ballet West in the medieval setting of Claregalway Castle.

In Co Roscommon, there will be a spoken-word recital of the great Irish literary epic ‘Cattle Raid of Cooley’.

Derry will stage hands-on editing workshops for young Vloggers to enable them to capture Culture Night in their own unique styles.

In Drogheda, Co Louth, Catherine Ryan Howard will be giving a Writer's Cafe talk about self-publishing.
