Creighton keen to join Dáil technical group

Lucinda Creighton says joining the Dail's technical group is an 'exciting prospect'.

The former Fine Gael junior minister has applied to join the group, and the final decision is down to the Ceann Comhairle Sean Barrett.

As the Dáil returns from its summer break, there is speculation that the other five so-called 'Reform Alliance' TDs could follow her lead, bringing the technical group membership to 21.

Deputy Creighton acknowledged that could be a cause of concern for the main opposition parties.

"For example if all of the ex-Fine Gael and ex-Labour TDs join it'll be the biggest opposition group, bigger than Fianna Fáil or Sinn Féin," she said.

"It is an exciting prospect, and while there may not be a whole lot of common ground it's not a policy alliance, it's a technical allliance - it's in order to ensure that we can all participate."
