Fianna Fáil has said the Government has to take some of the blame for the assassination of a man in Dublin on Friday.
It has said the reduction of resources in the Gardaí is allowing criminals to run amok.
32-year-old David Byrne was shot dead in a Dublin Hotel while attending a boxing match weigh-in.
Speaking in Drumcondra today, Fianna Fail Justice spokesperson Niall Collins said regressive Government policies are giving criminals a free run.
“It is a damning indictment of the Government’s failed policy and their inertia to deal with crime that they have allowed the numbers of Gardaí to dwindle to almost 1200.
“The main resource that An Garda Siochana need is man power and we simply don’t have it.
“They have also closed Garda Stations, they have left communities with closed Garda stations unpoliced.”
